Start with your everyday routine
Before comparing apartments, write down three things you want within an easy walk: a place to buy groceries, somewhere to work, and the activity that makes your day better. That might be a morning at the beach, a riverside walk, or lunch in a small neighbourhood restaurant. An impressive view cannot compensate for a location that makes your routine difficult.
My Khe and An Thuong: a beach-first starting point
If beach access is your priority, begin your search around My Khe and the An Thuong streets. Treat this as an area to explore rather than a promise that every apartment will suit you. Walk the exact route between the building and the beach, find your closest shop, and visit the street after dark. A quiet side street and a lively restaurant street can feel very different even when they are only a block apart.
Han River and Hai Chau: build your day around the city
For a city-focused routine, explore the central streets on the west side of the Han River. Compare access to markets, food, errands and riverside walks with the journey you would make to the beach. If you plan to cross the river often, test that journey at the times you will actually travel. Choose a specific building and street, rather than assuming that an entire area has one personality.
The Son Tra side: compare the exact street
The eastern side of the river offers another starting point for comparing beach and city access. Look carefully at the surroundings of any property: construction, traffic, late-night venues and empty plots can affect your stay. Check the entrance during rain if possible and ask the host about drainage and access. A daytime viewing is only one part of the picture.
View the apartment before committing
Test the air conditioning, water pressure and Wi-Fi from the room where you would work. Ask for all charges in writing: rent, electricity, water, cleaning, laundry and any deposit. Record the condition of furniture together with the owner. Clarify visitor rules, maintenance responsibilities, notice periods and the process for getting the deposit back. If a contract is unclear, arrange a reliable translation before agreeing.
Try the neighbourhood before choosing it
Book a flexible first stay and leave time to walk different areas. Have breakfast nearby, buy groceries, and sit somewhere without an itinerary. The useful question is not which neighbourhood is universally best, but which one makes your ordinary Tuesday easier. Keep transport costs and the conditions of your booking in the comparison.
